traditional and modern
The Ilkahöhe is a 728 m high elevation south of Tutzing and the most beautiful viewpoint on Lake Starnberg. It was formed by the Würm Glacier during the Würm Ice Age and is a remnant of its lateral moraine. The fantastic view extends over the lake, the pre-Alpine hilly landscape with the Chiemgau Alps to the Zugspitze.
History: Ilkahöhe got its name in honor of Princess Ilka von Wrede, who had received a number of Bavarian and Prussian honors during the 1870/71 war for her work helping the wounded. Born “Vieregg”, she inherited the Oberzeismering estate as the only surviving child of the last Count of Vieregg.
The present “Forsthaus Ilkahöhe” was for a long time the forester’s residence, who also had a tavern and served small snacks to hikers, woodworkers and other servants of the estate. It was not until about the 1950s that the forester’s lodge became a pure pub and gradually developed into today’s restaurant with a beer garden.
After an extensive renovation (2015), the Forsthaus shines again in full splendor and spoils its guests with high-quality cuisine.
In summer, guests can choose between the served restaurant terrace and the idyllic self-service beer garden, which also offers panoramic views.
This place is one of the must-visit places on Lake Starnberg.
